Defining Similar Exposure Groups

April 29, 2015 Monica Melkonian, MS, CIH

The goal of EHS is to assess occupational hazards across the organization for all employees. However, when EHS professionals are responsible for large numbers of employees, each with large numbers of processes and hazards, the scale of this task (and the volume of resources required) can be overwhelming.

One of the most effective ways to deal with this problem is through the establishment of similar exposure groups (SEGs). Our whitepaper, “IH Improvement Through Similar Exposure Groups” will discuss how EHS professionals can identify and control the occupational hazards that are faced by a large number of people by qualitatively and quantitatively assessing risks associated with groups of people, rather than individuals.

Download this paper to see how to improve the impact of your industrial hygiene management through:

  • Defining groups by observation
  • Qualitatively assessing SEGs using sampling data
  • Performing risk assessment to identify critical SEGs
  • Performing sampling and implementing controls for critical SEGs
